Spotting a market’s tops and bottoms seems easy in hindsight, but it is nearly impossible in real-world trading. One of the problems is many false signals are generated before the market eventually reverses direction. After hitting an all-time high or low, the market will often continue in the same direction, if only briefly.

Crude oil is a good example.
